PBS Masterpiece Schedule 2010

PBS has announced the dates for the upcoming Masterpiece Classics lineup!

DEC 20 – JAN 3 Cranford (Encore Presentation)
The BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated drama about a small English village in 1842 on the brink of change – where some find romance and opportunity, and others fear the breakdown of social order. Cast includes Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins, Imelda Staunton.

JAN 10 – 17 Return to Cranford
The construction of a brand new railroad line is at once thrilling and threatening to the residents of Cranford. This two-part sequel stars Judi Dench, Imelda Staunton, and Julia McKenzie. New faces include Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean), Tom Hiddleston (Wallander), and Tim Curry (Spamalot).

JAN 24 – FEB 7 Emma
A brand new adaptation of Jane Austen’s comic masterpiece about a headstrong young woman’s failed matchmaking schemes. Romola Garai (Atonement, Daniel Deronda) plays Emma. Also starring Sir Michael Gambon (Cranford, Gosford Park), and Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone, Trainspotting).

FEB 14 Northanger Abbey (Encore Presentation)
In a medieval house that appeals to her most lurid fantasies, romance addict Catherine Moreland (Felicity Jones) begins a relationship with the younger son of the estate. (90 minutes)

FEB 21 Persuasion (Encore Presentation)
Sally Hawkins plays Anne Elliot, a woman destined for spinsterhood after a proposal eight years earlier. Then her spurned suitor reappears. (90 minutes)

FEB 28 The 39 Steps
An adaptation of the popular John Buchan adventure novel, set on the eve of World War I. Filled with romance and humor, the 90-minute drama stars Rupert Penry-Jones (Persuasion) as mining engineer Richard Hannay caught up in a conspiracy following the death of a British spy found in his apartment. (90 minutes)

MAR 28 Sharpe’s Challenge (120 minutes)
Soldier-adventurer Richard Sharpe comes out of retirement to quash a rebellion in British India. Sean Bean returns as the swashbuckling hero of this series based on Bernard Cornwell's novels. Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi guest stars. Also features Toby Stephens :)

APR 4 Sharpe’s Peril (120 minutes)
The adventures of Colonel Richard Sharpe continue as he leads a ragtag party of civilians and soldiers on a march across India, with the murderous army of an opium lord in hot pursuit.

APR 11 The Diary of Anne Frank
Newcomer Ellie Kendrick won rave reviews for her portrayal of the teenage Jewish girl who chronicled life in hiding under Nazi terror in World World II. In honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day, MASTERPIECE premieres this brand new adaptation of one of the world’s most widely read non-fiction works. Also starring Iain Glen (Into the Storm) and Tamsin Greig (Shaun of the Dead).

APR 18 – 25 Small Island
When a young, ambitious Jamaican woman moves to gritty post-war London in search of a better life, she finds that the “Mother Country” is not quite the land of opportunity she had imagined. Starring Naomie Harris (Pirates of the Caribbean, 28 Days Later), Ruth Wilson (Jane Eyre), and Benedict Cumberbatch (The Last Enemy).

  1. Looks like a fantastic lineup! I'm so looking forward to Emma and Return to Cranford!
    The 39 Steps looks interesting but anything with RPJ would be! :)
