More proposed FAIRYTALES

Princess Di portrayed by Keira Knightley & Charlize Theron?

Two different film projects focusing on Princess Diana are currently in discussion.

Pathe Films (who produced Keira Knightley in The Duchess and Helen Mirren in The Queen) are reportedly hoping to cast both actresses in a biopic of Diana. It would focus on Diana's early years as a princess, her marriage to Charles and her death in Paris. Keira would be cast as Princess Di and Dame Mirren would be Frances Shand Kydd, Di's mother.

A second film (by Bafta-winning producer Stephen Evans) would see Charlize Theron cast as Princess Di with Ewan McGregor portraying Ken Wharfe, Diana's bodyguard of 8 years.

Passing this information on for those interested but I have to say that I am not fond of either of those actresses being cast as Princess Di. Please... no.

Moulin Rouge!

I was swept away by this movie!

Nicole Kidman
and Ewan MacGregor gave stellar performances as Satine and Christian, the star-crossed lovers who meet in Paris in 1900. I was surprised by how well they both could sing. I also enjoyed Jim Broadbent's caricature of Harold Zidler and Richard Roxburgh's portrayal of the obsessed Duke.

Baz Luhrmann directed this feast of colour and music that never stops. The only thing I didn't care for was its setting in a brothel but this was not a major factor to the unfolding of the plot.

The Story
It's Paris in 1899. Christian, a young English poet, comes to Paris to persue a pennyless career as a writer. However, he soon meets a group of Bohemians who tell him that he should write a musical show for them to be performed at the Moulin Rouge, the most famous underworld night club in Paris. The night they arrive at the Moulin Rouge, Christian meets Satine, the club's star and a beautiful courtesan. He falls head-over-heels in love with her and though it takes a bit of convincing, she falls for him as well. Meanwhile, the club's owner, Harold Zidler, invests in a wealthy Duke to help pay for the club, however, the duke will only pay if Satine is his. This crazy love triangle twists and turns. And little does Satine know that she has a deadly secret that could end everything. (from IMDB)

Nicole Kidman - Satine

Ewan McGregor - Christian

One of the opening shots - I loved the cinematography of this film.

Jim Broadbent (centre) as the eccentric but kind Zigler.

This shot of the Duke makes me laugh every time.
I'm a new fan of Richard Roxburgh.

The film won the Academy Award for Best Costume Design

The final sequence - just a simple, little song put together by Baz Luhrmann.

Emma

Based on the novel by Jane Austen, this period romantic comedy stars Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma Woodhouse, a young woman who imagines herself an authority on matters of the heart. With the best of intentions, Emma plays matchmaker for her friends, most notably her friend Harriet (Toni Collette), who Emma links up with the Reverend Elton (Alan Cumming), and her governess, (Greta Scacchi), who she introduces to her future husband, Mr. Weston. However, Emma is not nearly as good at playing Cupid as she likes to imagine, and she spends so much time trying to solve everyone else's romantic problems that it takes her quite some time to realize that she's fallen in love with Mr. Knightly (Jeremy Northam).

Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma

Toni Collette as Harriet Smith

Polly Walker as Jane Fairfax
and Ewan McGregor as Frank Churchill

Greta Scacchi as Mrs. Weston

Mr. and Mrs. Elton with Jane and Frank
(Eltons played by Alan Cumming & Juliet Stevenson)

Mrs. Bates and Miss Bates, mother and daughter in the film,
are played by real-life mother and daughter Phyllida Law and Sophie Thompson
(who are also real life mother and sister to actress Emma Thompson)

Jeremy Northam as the dashing Mr. Knightley
