British actress Anna Massey dies at age 73

A veteran actress with over 100 film projects to her credit, Anna Massey was a welcomed and familiar face in many period dramas! Anna was previously married to Jeremy Brett (Sherlock Holmes). Her parents (Raymond Massey, Adrianne Allen) and brother Daniel were also in the acting business. She also had a Canadian connection with her uncle Vincent Massey being the Governor General in the 50s. I spent my elementary years at a school named in his honour.

  1. Loved her in The Importance of Being Earnest. "Prism, where is that baby?"

    She will be missed. I didn't know her dad was Canadian.

  2. I've only seen her in He Knew He Was Right, but she did such a lovely job in that movie!

  3. I'll never forget her as Mrs. Danvers in Rebecca. My mom let me stay up late on Sunday nights to watch Masterpiece, and I've loved Rebecca ever since. Anna Massey also brilliantly narrated an audio version of Rebecca. I haven't seen many of her other films but I'll have to watch more.

  4. @Jenny,
    "Importance of Being Earnest" is yet another one I need to re-watch! My horrible memory means that I don't have any need for new period dramas since I have too much fun revisiting the older ones!

    @Elizabeth,
    I've not seen her in many dramas either but I agree with you that I loved her performance in "He Knew He Was Right"!

    @Karen,
    I've not seen Rebecca but I can imagine what a great Danvers she could be!
