Hugh Jackman in talks for Les Mis?

Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in Universal and Working Title’s big-screen musical adaptation of Les Miserables, to be directed by The King’s Speech helmer Tom Hooper.

Alfie Boe has been mentioned as a possibility for the role of Valjean but I could see how Jackman would appeal to the producers since he is already a recognizable face.

Update: Paul Bettany is being mentioned as a possible Javert...

What do you think?

  1. I DEFINITELY prefer Alfie Boe. I think it would be amazing to see him in a film version!

I like Alfie Boe too! He definitely has the voice, ah... what a voice and he's so charismatic! However, I have a feeling that producers will want to go with a familiar face and if that's the case, I could get behind the idea of Jackman.

  3. Would love to see Hugh Jackman in a film musical, but I'm not so sure he has the vocal chops for Valjean. It takes a seasoned tenor to really deliver the power of his songs.

I love Alfie Boe's voice. But i also love Jackman's magnetic screen presence. Darn. Hard to choose.

  4. I think they should try to cast REAL Les Miz actors - people who have already been in the show. But please, I beg you, Mr. Producer, no Alfie Boe. I'd take Hugh over him.

  5. Well, Hugh Jackman did OK singing at the Oscars so hopefully he'll do well enough for this too, because physically he's perfect for Jean Valjean.

And Paul Bettany as Javert? Hells yeah!

  6. Can't we have our cake and eat it too? How about Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean and Hugh Jackman as Javert? Alfie has the beautiful tenor voice and Hugh has the scowling eyebrows...

  7. My favorite musical and my favorite musical theatre performer - Les Miserables and Hugh Jackman - in the film version! Dream come true! Hugh has the talent and versatility to make his movie Valjean a memorable and winning big screen portrayal! He can act, he can sing, he has the physicality to transform the character, and he has a magnetic screen presence ( movie close-ups included)! No brainer! Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean!
