Gambit (2012)

We already heard about Firth and Diaz being cast but today, news of new cast members!

Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman
and Tom Courtenay will appear in a remake of Gambit, the 1966 British comedy caper, to be directed by Michael Hoffman (The Last Station).

Cloris Leachman and Stanley Tucci have also joined the cast.

Screenplay by: Joel and Ethan Coen

Plot: The film centres on Harry Deane (Firth), a London art curator who enlists a Texas Rodeo Queen PJ Puznowski (Diaz) in a scheme to con Lord Shahbandar (Rickman), the richest man in England. Sir Tom Courtenay will step into the role of The Major.

The original film (which starred Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine) was told in a reverse chronological order, with a twist at the beginning of the story that is not revealed until the end, resulting in a punchline. It was advertised with the headline, "Go Ahead Tell The End - It's Too Hysterical To Keep Secret - But Please Don't Tell The Beginning!"

Filming expected to take place in London in May with the film to be released sometime in 2012.

  1. Alan Rickman in a movie with Cameron Diaz? I never thought I'd see the day.

But I think they're all very talented actors so thanks a lot for the heads-up. I'll be checking this one out.

  2. The rumours were that Alan Rickman is going to appear naked at some stage in this film? I was led to believe in a glass box or some such?! Apart from the obvious question of: "Why now, at age 65, Alan?", does anyone know for sure if this is true? Not being familiar with the original 1966 film, I don't know the plot, but I can't think why they'd be a need for such a scene ... Any ideas?
