Gnomeo and Juliet (2011)

A very loose adaptation of Shakespeare's tale of doomed lovers...

"Directed by Kelly Asbury (co-director of Shrek 2) and showcasing both classic and original songs by Elton John, the film features the voices of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt as Gnomeo and Juliet, who have as many obstacles to overcome as their quasi namesakes when they are caught up in a feud between neighbors." [comingsoon.net]

Other actors who provide voices include:
Michael Caine, Jason Statham, Maggie Smith, Patrick Stewart, Stephen Merchant, Matt Lucas, Jim Cummings, Julie Walters, Richard Wilson and Ozzy Osbourne

What do you think???

  1. A loose adaptation, indeed, but it looks like fun! Thanks for posting this. What a cast! I'd like to see James McAvoy and Emily Blunt take on the real Shakespearean story, even it were some sort of modern adaptation. But if it has to be cute little gnomes this time, I'll still be there in the spring to check it out. :)

  2. Hearing about this last year and being impressed with the list of names on board for the film, I have to say that I was less than impressed with this 1st trailer. I'm more keen to see 'Tangled'. Is Rapunzel on your list of 100? :)

  3. Hi Lucy,

McAvoy did Shakespeare. Contemporary. He was MacBeth, no less, in the second installment of the "ShakespeaRetold" DVD. My favourites were Shirly Henderson and Rufus Sewell as the shrews to be tamed by one another, though. Marvellous and great fun.

  4. Bizarro...it's not Shakespeare or R&J but it looks fun. I actually liked the image of Elton John the best :)

  5. I thought this was going to be cheesy, but it was actually quite hilarious! It seems most of the humor is for adults. ;)
