The Beautiful Game - Andrew Lloyd Webber

I was browsing Andrew Lloyd Webber's website and discovered that he's composed the music for The Beautiful Game (with book and lyrics by Ben Elton) which debuted in 2000. It's about a group of teenagers growing up amid religious intolerance in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1969, (with title taken from Pelé's autobiography My Life and the Beautiful Game).

It was rewrited and retitled The Boys in the Photograph and is currently playing at The Joburg Theatre in South Africa, just in time for World Cup?

Here's the song that captured my attention...

If This Is What We're Fighting For (from The Beautiful Game)

  1. Just watched "Shutter Island" last night with my husband and sons. Would that be considered a period film? What a cool movie with some unexpected twists. Definitely has a Hitchcockian feel to it if anyone loves Hitchcock films. The cinematography and music definitely add to the appeal, too. Great actors and acting.

  2. BP, I've heard good reviews about Shutter Island! And yeah, I would consider it a period film. I listed it with upcoming films way back but haven't seen it myself so I had forgotten about it. Glad to hear that you thought it was well done!
