Albert Nobbs (2011)

Glenn Close is set to reprise her stage role in film based on George Moore's story. Orlando Bloom, Michael Gambon and Janet McTeer are also on board.

Update: Amanda Seyfried and Jonathon Rhys Meyers have been added to cast.

Set in a luxury hotel in Dublin, Albert Nobbs is a Gosford Park-style “below stairs” drama featuring Close as a woman in 19th century Ireland who disguises herself as a man in order to survive. The celebrated actress has said that Nobbs will be “the challenge” of her career. “I believe in this story and its potential to take everyone on a sensuous, funny, heart-breaking ride,” Close commented.

The film is based on the famous off-Broadway drama 'The Singular Life Of Albert Nobbs', written by Simone Benmussa. The story was originally written by George Moore and was translated by Barbara Wright. The show originated off-Broadway and was produced by the Manhattan Theatre Club, opening June 16th, 1982 and closed July 10, 1982 after 27 performances. Close's performance as Nobbs earned her an Obie Award. (Broadway World)
