Janet Patterson - Costume Designer

"It's not often that a costume designer gets to design costumes
for a character who's also a costume designer."
(Variety.com)

The above quote is describing Janet Patterson's task in dressing Fanny Brawne in 'Bright Star'. One of the things I loved about the film were the absolutely gorgeous and sometimes quirky outfits that Fanny would proudly wear as she experimented with her sewing skills. Patterson mentions that dressing Fanny posed an exceptional challenge "because she was playing with her own identity and creativity through her costumes."

Here are some of the films showing the touch of Janet Patterson's costume design.

Bright Star (2009)

I loved Keats' blue coat
(even though Fanny thought he needed a new one)
and Charles' plaid spoke volumes!

Loved this dress worn by Fanny's mother

Peter Pan (2003)

Oscar and Lucinda (1997)

The Portrait of a Lady (1996)

The Piano (1993)

of Jane Campion and as such have without knowing appreciated your work. Likewise i have seen all the listed films you have worked on. So In a way it is good to put a name to it all.

I write for a simple reason, you mentioned on a site that the living relatives of Fanny Brawne were at the premier of Bright Star and as such i would like to discuss with you why i wish to speak with them. I will post my contact details in the hope that you will read this and respond.
