Rebecca Eaton

She's an American who fell in love with British Literature and drama and landed the perfect job as a Television producer for PBS Masterpiece Theatre. She has the fortunate job of deciding which movies will be chosen to be part of the collection that many know and love as the classics of Masterpiece Theatre.

When asked, "How do you choose what's going to go on Masterpiece Theatre?"

Eaton replies,

"It's fairly foolproof...in the old days, we bought most of them after they were made, and my husband's a sculptor and he keeps farmer's hours. He gets up at 5:00 in the morning and so I would bring the cassettes home of the shows and put them in the machine and we would watch them and if he was awake after the first 15 minutes, we would buy them.
Now, because these are co-productions and now I'm a few years older, we get scripts...if I'm awake after 15 pages of the script, we buy it."
She has been honoured for women in television in a series She Made It by the Paley Center for Media and on the PBS site, you can watch a video of Rebecca's introduction to the Inside the Complete Jane Austen. Wish I had her job....

  1. ...Ms. Eaton. I hope an additional production of Downton Abbey is being planned. May I ask if you will deal with further historic events that effect the families with in it' walls....Have you read anything on the late Gertrude Bell? She was responsible for Prince Amir Faysal being elevated to king of Iraq. She was a counter-part to T.E. Lawrance. I think the politically active youugest, from Downton Abbey would make a fine match.
